Q: How many weeks of paid leave are we talking about?

A:  Starting in 2018, up to 8 weeks of leave at 50 percent of the eligible employee’s average weekly wage, to a maximum of 50 percent of the state’s average weekly wage.  In 2019, this increases to10 weeks of leave at 55 percent of the employee’s average weekly wage, to a maximum of 55 percent of the state’s average weekly wage.  In 2020, up to 10 weeks of leave at 60 percent of the employee’s average weekly wage, to a maximum of 60 percent of the state’s average weekly wage. In 2021 and after, up to 12 weeks of leave at 67 percent of the employee’s average weekly wage, to a maximum of 67 percent of the state’s average weekly wage.The New York State Department of Financial Services Superintendent has the power to delay these increases if he determines that they would have a negative impact on New York’s economy.
